LIFE FIX 15 – LIVING THE 12 STEPS, 10-12-25, Lead Pastor - Jeff Aenk, New Hope Christian Church
Key Verse – John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through me.
*Jesus 12 Steps MAKEOVER OUR Life, if we Live Out Their Spiritual Principles, making peace with god, ourselves, & others ONGOING.
1. HONESTY – I Can’t. We admitted we were powerless over _________-that our lives had become unmanageable.
John 8:31b-32– Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Living by the Spiritual Principle of Honesty means, Not Keeping Secrets, & Always Telling the Truth to God, Yourself, & Others.
2. HOPE – Jesus Can. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Romans 5:5 - And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (*We’re Not on our Own - There’s a Powerful God that Loves us & can Transform us into the highest expression of Our self slowly.)
3. FAITH – I Trust Jesus. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.
Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
No Matter what Happens, God has Us in His Good Powerful Hands & He’s in Our Driver’s Seat, In Control of Our Lives, so We Don’t Have to Be!
4. COURAGE – Take Inventory. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Joshua 1:9b - Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
It’s hard, but we MUST Walk into our shadows to face difficult things about ourselves & Regularly Examine our Lives, or our Ego/Pride/Flesh will Rule.
5. INTEGRITY – Admit the Wrongs. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Proverbs 11:3 - The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
Integrity - Our Actions, Thinking, Feelings, Ideals, & Values All Match Up. Aligning our Inside with our Outside. Practicing My Values. Not 2 Faced.
6. WILLINGNESS – List the Defects. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Philippians 2:12b-13 - continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. (Desperation gets us Started on Recovery Road, Willingness Keeps us On It. Stay Willing & Let God Lead, Work & Change Us!)
7. HUMILITY – Surrender the Defects. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
James 4:10 - Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
There is a God & I am NOT Him, But I NEED Him! I Continually Surrender & Bow my Knee to Him, Asking His Help to Change & Letting Him Lead Me.
8. FORGIVENESS – List Those Harmed. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
We Need to ask Forgiveness from Others, So Let’s Start by Forgiving those Who Hurt Us. This Allows us to Move On with our Lives & Enjoy Life!
9. LOVE – Make Amends. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
John 13:34 - A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (1st Cor. 13 – Love Acts Like…..)
Humans Hurt each other. Don’t Take things Personally, Let Go of Offenses, & Quickly Make Amends with those We’ve Hurt, so we can Enjoy Close Relationships. Ex. Humans are Like Prickly Porcupines in the Winter, We Hurt & Poke each other, But we Need Each other to Huddle & Stay Warm.
10. PERSEVERENCE – Daily Inventory. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
James 1:4 - Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
We don’t quit. We Persist & Stay Focused on Progress, Not Perfection, One Day at a Time. When we Mess Up, We Fess Up & Get Back on the Horse!
11. SPIRITUAL AWAKENESS – Daily God Contact. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
Romans 13:11b - wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
Spiritual Awake-ness is NOT our Default Setting, So Let’s Quit hitting the Snooze Button, & Wake to See what God is Doing in the World & Join Him!
12. SERVICE – Share With Others. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to our fellow sufferers, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Ephesians 2:10 - For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Our real Purpose is to be of maximum Service to God and the People around us, Dedicating Our Lives to Helping Others Find Healing & Freedom too!
Here’s What I Want us To Do This Week
*Commit to Daily Living Out the Spiritual Principles in Jesus 12 Steps, Quickly Making Peace with God, Ourselves, & Others through the Ebbs & Flows of the Rest of Our Lives.
