Baptism at New Hope

A Public Step of Faith. A New Life in Christ.

Baptism is an important step for anyone who has chosen to believe in and follow Jesus Christ. It is a public declaration of faith and an act of obedience to Jesus.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…”
(Matthew 28:19)
Jesus for salvation. Jesus Himself commanded baptism:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
 (Matthew 28:19)

From the very beginning of the church, baptism followed belief in Jesus.

Who Is Baptism For?

Baptism is for those who have::
Believed
Repented
Confessed
Believed in Jesus Christ.
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”
(Acts 16:31)
Repented by turning away from sin and asking God’s forgiveness.
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
(Acts 2:38)
Confessed Jesus as Lord
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
(Romans 10:9)
When a person believes, repents, and confesses Jesus as Lord, they invite Him to live in their heart by the Holy Spirit—and He does.

What Is Baptism video

The Role of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives within every believer and is:
  • God’s guarantee of eternal life
  • Our power to change and live God’s way
  • Our Comforter, Counselor, and Guide
  • The One who helps us understand the Bible and Jesus’ teachings
“You were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.”
(Ephesians 1:13–14)

Why Baptism Matters

Baptism should happen as soon as possible after believing. It represents:
  • A spiritual birthday
  • A commitment to follow Jesus
  • A picture of new life in Christ
“We were buried with Him by baptism into death… that we too might walk in newness of life.”
(Romans 6:4)

What Baptism Symbolizes & Life After Baptism

What Baptism Symbolizes
Baptism by immersion shows:
  • Dying to your old life
  • Burying the old self
  • Rising to a new life in Jesus
Just as Jesus died, was buried, and rose again, baptism shows we now live for Him.
Baptism is the beginning of a lifelong journey:
  • Learning to obey Jesus
  • Growing in faith and community
  • Relying on the Holy Spirit for strength and guidance
When we sin, we go to God for forgiveness and help to grow.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”
(1 John 1:9)
