LIFE FIX 4 – STEP 2 – BELIEVE IN GOD & IN HIS GREATER POWER, 7-13-25, Lead Pastor - Jeff Aenk, New Hope Christian Church
Key Verse – John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through me.
STEP 2 – WE CAME TO BELIEVE THAT A POWER GREATER THAN OURSELVES COULD RESTORE US TO SANITY.
Matthew 5:4 - Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (*They Hurt & Cry Out to the God who Can Heal & Restore)
1. Maybe You’re Frustrated/ Angry with God, or have some Wrong Distorted Views about Him, & Need the Truth & Peace.
Psalm 22:1-5 - 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises. 4 In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 To you they cried out and were
saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. (*David Originally Prayed this. Jesus Quoted Verse 1 on Cross! Mark 15:34)
Isaiah 5:20a - Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness… (Devil’s Plan - Lies)
Romans 8:31b - If God is for us, who can be against us? (*God is FOR Us, the devil is AGAINST Us, & the devil Loses in the End!)
Matthew 18:3 - And he (Jesus) said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Give God Permission to Reintroduce Himself to You like a Little Child Learning your Heavenly Father for 1st Time.)
*****Pray this Set Aside Prayer – the Child’s Beginner's Mindset Prayer: “God, Today help me set aside everything I think I know about you, everything I think I know about myself, everything I think I know about others, & everything I think I know about my own recovery, so I may have an open mind and a new experience with all these things. Please help me see the Truth.”
2. God is a Loving, Caring, & Good Father, & He doesn’t make too hard of Terms with those who Seek Him.
1 John 4:16 - And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Matthew 7:11 - If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Matthew 7:7-8 - 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
John 3:16-17 - 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
3. We are ALL a Little CRAZY & Need God’s Help & POWER to Change our Thinking & our Actions.
***** INSANITY - Repeatedly Doing the Same Thing & Expecting Different Results.
A. Are Coping Mechanisms & Defenses Healing Our Pain?
B. Humans have 10,000 Thoughts a Day. Is your Inner Monologue like a Person AGAINST You? Negative, Depressed, Anxious, Self-Centered, Self-Prosecuting? Do Self-Defeating Thoughts Recur & Never Shut UP? Can’t Shake ‘em Cause we’re Addicted to ‘em! *How's that working out?
C. When we Let our Brains Off the Leash, All they do is Eat the Garbage! Just because We THINK Something, Does NOT make it TRUE!
D. Jesus 12 Steps teach us how to relate differently to the Crazy Person in Our Heads & STOP BELIEVING every Thought we Have & Getting Hooked!
2 Corinthians 10:5 - We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Timothy 1:7 - For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Luke 10:19 – I (Jesus) have given you authority (AKA – Power) to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
*God’s Greater Power can Restore us to Sanity. Sanity means Health, Wholeness, Healing, & Freedom that Only God can Give us.
1. A Healthy Whole Person realizes their drug of choice will never take away or fix their pain & traumas, but actually makes it worse.
2. A Sane Person No Longer assigns importance to, or takes their crazy thoughts and feelings seriously, but Takes them Captive & Makes them Obedient to Christ.
Here’s What I Want us To Do This Week
1. Believe in God & that His Greater Power than Ourselves can Restore us to Sanity.
