3 Different Boxes (Framework for Series):  1. Scriptural Fact,  2. Creative Imagination,  3. Extrabiblical Tradition

VIDEO Clip #1:  David not being invited to the anointing ceremony (Season 1, Episode 3)
*David Outcast?  His Mom & Dad?   Psalm 51:5 – In sin my mother conceived me.  Psalm 69:8 – Stranger to own mother’s children.

1 Samuel 16:1-5 – 1 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”  2  But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”  The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’  3  Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.”
4  Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?”  5  Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

3 KEYS TO WINNING IN GOD’S EYES:

1. DON’T BE DECEIVED BY OR FOCUS ON OUTWARD APPEARANCES.
1 Samuel 16:6-7a – 6  When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.”  7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.  The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance,…..
Proverbs 31:30 - Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
*Not All that Glitters is Gold!

2. LOOK DEEPER INTO THE HEART & YOU’LL FIND DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH.
Key Verse - 1 Samuel 16:7b – The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
1 Samuel 16:10-12 - 10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.”  11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”  “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”  Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”  12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.  Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

VIDEO Clip #2:  David touched by Samuel and the lion emerges (Season 1, Episode 3)
2 Corinthians 4:16 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.    *Not All that’s Gold, Glitters!  Foundation is Everything!  Is Their or Our Life Built on Solid Rock of Christ?
2 Corinthians 10:10a - For some say, “His (Paul’s) letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive…”
Isaiah 53:2b - He (Jesus) had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3. FOCUSING ON GROWING YOUR HEART & SOUL, MATTERS MORE THAN YOUR BODY.
1 Timothy 4:8 - For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
1 Peter 3:3-4 - 3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
